Natural products include a large and diverse group of small molecules from a variety of sources produced naturally by any living organism including primary and secondary metabolites.
They can originate from marine organisms, bacteria, fungi, and plants.
Here they are produced by the specialized pathways of primary or secondary metabolism. Several of these compounds have therapeutic benefit and were found in traditional medicines as active components or as lead compounds for drug discovery.
